TAG Talk Tuesdays – Adam/Grukkar

Published by Mel on

Hello and welcome to the first TAG Talk! I’m Mel, a player of Odyssey and excited to learn more about my fellow LARPers. Here, I want to feature our players and their characters. For each player we’ll interview them in two parts; in the first interview, you get to know them as a LARPer while in the second you will learn about their character. Just be sure to keep anything learned out-of-character. *wink wink*

I am so pleased to introduce Adam who plays the Orc Grukkar! He is known in Odyssey for his immersive role-playing and ritual work. Hello Adam~ Go ahead and say a few things about yourself.

My name is Adam L. When I am not LARPing, I like to spend time with my partner and tinker with computers. I work as an IT Tech for my day job. I have been LARPing since 2018.

Oh perfect! That leads right to the first question: How did you learn about LARPing?

I first heard about LARPing from a group that went to a now defunct LARP called Quest. We played a group there called the “Ork Kill Squad”.

Oh! I remember the Ork Kill Squad! They seemed like such a fun bunch. You mentioned you’ve been LARPing since 2018. Other than Quest and Odyssey, have you been part of other groups?

I have also attended Gisido in Tuscawarus County in Ohio. I am attending Drachenfest for the first time this year.

That’s really cool you’re having fun with so many~ Is it difficult to consistently attend all the events?

I have a priority list in case of conflict. TAG is number one on my attend list because it is the best community I’ve found around.

Aw, you’re so sweet~ Speaking of community, what do you personally strive to bring to a LARP community?

I want to bring roleplay and immersion. I play a heritage that has minimum requirement but I strive to make every visible part of me green to immerse myself and others. This should be a place where we can take the baggage of the real world off and live out our imagination.

I love it, imagination is what LARP is all about. <3 So speaking of green, your character is Grukkar, in which we’ll find out more about him next week. Do you find yourself drawn to characters like Grukkar or is he a whole new experience?

Heritage-wise at LARP I usually tend toward “Monster” characters but display them outside of a traditional idea of them. This is my first time exploring big performance magic like rituals but am having a blast with that new experience.

Monster characters can be really fun~ I imagine you have to keep in mind how they would react versus human-like ones. When it comes to LARPing, do you find it hard to differentiate your personality from your character’s?

That’s part of the reason I am drawn towards monster characters. I find it easier to break away from myself and be a character. It will always be difficult but the more I play a character, the easier it is for me to get in the mindset of that character. I have an entire music playlist dedicated to the character that I listen to on the way to events to work on “putting the character on”.

That’s so cool sir~ It’s also a great place to leave off! Next you’ll be speaking with Mat to delve more into what makes Grukkar, Grukkar lol.

I want to give Adam a HUGE thank you as he volunteered to be first in our TAG Talk! I look forward to hearing more about his character next week. If you wish to be interviewed, don’t hesitate to contact Mel or Mat via our Discord channel

Thank you everyone and have yourselves a lovely day~

(Other than small grammar and spelling mistakes, the interviewee’s text is unchanged.)
