TAG Talk Tuesdays – Sean
Greetings players! Here we are with another TAG Talk Tuesday- when we interview a fellow player and learn more about their experience with LARP as well as their character for Odyssey. This week is a treat as we interview our stellar Plot Head, Sean! Known for his imagination as well as his quick wit, we pick apart his mind to learn about the behind the scenes with Arkrath. SO, Sean, introduce yourself~
Hey, hey so a little bit about me… name’s Sean, I started LARPing a few years before Quest before the game closed. Most of you know me from my character, Zanrik Argrim Champion of the Guardian of Acid, Grand Magisterious, Treasure Hunter Extraordinaire, Founding Member of the Golden Hydra Adventuring Group, and humble clock tinkerer. When the game closed, I was one of three major players in trying to take over Quest and ultimately the three of us (Mark, Brian, and myself) decided to join forces and create our own game group, TAG. It was definitely an honor to help bring this game and the world of Arkrath to life for our players! I am excited to see how the next few years go as we continue to grow our player-base and expand our game!!
Hecks yeah sir! So as one of the founders of Arkrath, what was your main inspiration for the world in regards to LARPing?
Well, I don’t think it’s a secret that I’m a huge fan for the Final Fantasy game series, so I really wanted to incorporate some sort of crystal imagery as homage. I wanted a high fantasy world that felt magical and unique. On of the most “it doesn’t make sense but everyone just goes with it” thing for me when it comes to LARPs is that every camp site is a different location in game… which is a great way to explore the world but you honestly expect me to believe that all the adventurers in the world just pick up and move around together and happen to stumble onto the big threats?! And so we came up with the idea of the Rifts; we establish a home base and then give a in-game mechanic for how the problems keep showing up for the adventures.
Haha, immersion can be difficult. The Rifts feel very ground-breaking LARP-wise! Have you encountered any pushback from players?
I wouldn’t say push back per say. We have heard some feedback that the Rifts make exploring the world too dangerous and I know there was some back and forth on players wanting to explore the Rifts and travel to different planes… which may be possible in the future but for now we wanted to focus on fleshing out the main world of Arkrath and as the players become more comfortable with the game, let them see what’s possible. I’m definitely excited to see what the next plot head comes up with and how they expand on the world
The next plot head? So you don’t plan on being plot head forever?
Well, the board positions have terms built in to prevent any one person from taking control of the game for years… that said, if the players want me to, I’ll keep running for the position and if I get elected again then I’ll continue to do my best to help run the game. I’m sure there will be a point through where someone else will want to step into the role and at that point it’s up to the players to vote
A very democratic answer! Currently, you don’t have a character. Any reason why?
Well the main reason is because my focus is on the Plot team. I also have some medical reasons that have been keeping me out of combat but with the Warden class I’m excited to eventually make a character and adventure around
Aw ye, our beloved Warden class. X3 Any ideas for a character concept and how they’ll fit into the world of Arkrath?
I honestly haven’t put too much thought into it! I enjoyed playing Zanrik at Quest however, I feel like it could be nice to have a more serious-feeling character. I tried the Lore LARP after Quest shut down and had a merchant which was helpful for my group. I mainly just sat in the tavern and sold baked goods and in game resources. I feel like we have a lot of great merchants in game right now though so I don’t know if I want to muddle the market haha
