TAG Talk Tuesdays – Adam G/Nasir

Published by Mel on

Welcome friends to TAG Talk Tuesday, where we interview one of our fellow Odyssey players and learn more about them not only as a LARPer but also about their Odyssey character. This week, we feature the incredibly talented Adam G! Not only is he our Operations Head, but he’s also the genius behind Nasir, the blue-skinned merchant. Welcome Adam, let’s get to know you~

Well hello. My name is Adam Giles, I’m the lead for Operations for TAG. Favorites? Well my favorite color is Blue. My favorite animal is the Penguin (probably King Penguin). My favorite etcetera is taking things too literally.

XDXD Hahaha, love it~ What’s it like being Head of Operations?

I don’t mind it. It’s not the most glamorous post, but I’m glad I can help get our game running.

Huzzah! We’re very thankful for your service, sir. So how long have you been LARPing??

I’ve been LARPing since I was 15. So that would make it 19 years this year… Goodness that’s something to think about.

Oh, I love it (again!). You seemed to have gotten into LARPing at a young age! Did you have a mentor or just kinda fell into it?

I actually did have a mentor. Mel* introduced me to Circle of Swords’ LARP, Quest. I met her through her daughter Kitty, who I went to school with at the time. When Kitty told me her mom played D&D just like we did, I knew I had to meet her. Not long later, I was sitting on her couch carving foam and layering on duct tape to make my first short swords.

(*Not me Mel!)

That’s such a wholesome memory! If I recall correctly, Quest wasn’t the only LARP you’ve played? Which one is/was your fav?

That’s right. I’ve also played other boffer LARPs like Dystopia Rising (a post apocalyptic zombie LARP) and Lore (another fantasy LARP), but those were very temporary visits into other games. Quest always brought me back. That being said, I’ve been very into salon or parlor LARPs, games that are much more political and role-play focused with no physical contact between players. Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse are the two I played the most. I still play Vampire with COSVamp. I’m actually getting ready to go to their first live event of 2025 tonight, as we speak.

But back to your question. Quest and Werewolf are tied for me as my favorites. Both of those games put me in situations where I, just for a little, forgot I was playing a character. That level of immersion is rare, and aren’t we all looking for escapism when we indulge in fantasy?

Yessssss, I can’t wait to experience the same level of immersion! If you feel comfortable sharing, we would love for you to describe one of those situations!

Sure! So I’ll use my example from Werewolf: the Apocalypse. A character played by a good friend of mine, her name was Chases-Purple-Dragon, broke one of the laws of werewolf society. My character, Sergei, was a judge in the society. Sergei and a few others had to decide on a punishment for her crime and carry it out. It was decided that she would be exiled for a year and a day.

Now, punishments are carried out in werewolf society as rituals, called Punishment Rites. The scene where we acted out the Rite of Ostracism on Chases-Purple-Dragon was one of the most emotionally charged moments I had ever experienced in any game.

All twenty or so characters stood around her in a circle. Starting with Me (Sergei) as head judge, each character looked her in the eyes and said, “Chases-Purple-Dragon, you are not my sister.” and then turned to face outward from the circle. One by one, each character said this, and each time more tears welled up in her eyes. The characters in the circle started to get choked up and teary-eyed, too. After everyone had turned away, she was left to walk out of the room and not return for a year and a day.

Now after the scene, we all checked in with each other, especially her. Intense as it was, many of us consider that to be one of our favorite RP moments of all time.

She didn’t play that character again for 366 real-world days. She played a different character for a year, but Chases-Purple-Dragon made her return after that. She was not the same happy-go-lucky girl when she came back, though.

Oh my goodness, that’s so incredible! I can’t even imagine how intense that must’ve been for her.

For Odyssey, your character is Nasir, the blue-skinned enigmatic merchant! How do you hope to create immersion with such a fun character?

Nasir is going to be an interesting character to play. I think his big personality is going to carry a lot, but I have some plans to help bring immersion to the next level. I picked up quite a few props and decorations to make his area really feel like a bazaar, for example. I also have some really cool plans to make the rituals he performs really special, but I’m going to keep those a surprise.

I canNOT wait, especially as a person who also wants to bring immersion via decorations via a tent ‘n at. I look forward to learning more next week when Mat asks further questions about Nasir! Thank you so kindly~

If you, yeah YOU, would like to be interviewed, contact myself or Mat via our super fun Discord or Facebook. Yins be sure to have a lovely day~
